The right approach to the environment

Suominen Flexibles is committed to sustainable development and minimising the environmental impact associated with our products, processes, and way of working – in line with the ICC’s Business Charter for Sustainable Development.

In product development, for example, we prioritise taking environmental and safety concerns into account from the beginning, and aim to create high-quality products using minimum amounts of raw material, optimising product protection properties, maximising use of recycled materials, and by reusing production waste.

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Suominen Flexibles follows the three principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle in its approach to the environment. We have set internal targets with action plans to each of our environmental principles. We are focusing on reducing energy consumption, usage of raw materials, pigments and printing inks, transportation, packaging material, waste and emissions to air. Our airborne emissions are carefully monitored and controlled with the help of advanced catalytic incinerator units.

We reuse pallets and boxes, paper cores and production process waste. Our production leftovers are collected from all Suominen Flexibles’ plants and delivered for sorting and regranulation in Tampere plant in Finland. This gives us an opportunity to minimise amounts of virgin raw materials and internal waste as well as a possibility to offer recycled products to our customers.

Suominen Flexibles has also made a strong commitment to recycle. We have launched the recycling points for retail carrier bags located in shops and shopping centres in Finland together with Lassila & Tikanoja. The aims of these recycling points are to encourage consumers to recycle used carrier bags as well as to improve utilisation of plastic products. We also take care our internal waste disposal at Suominen.
